Food Assistance
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
NVE participates in two USDA food programs: TEFAP (Food Bank of Alaska) and FDPIR. All people residing in Cordova may apply. See both applications to select the program that best suites you. You may participate in both programs if you meet the eligibility guidelines.
TEFAP (Food Bank of Alaska) and FDPIR eligibility is based on gross household income or other qualifying factors. See application for details.
Apply for one or both of our food programs by completing the correct application in person or emailing it to food@eyak-nsn.gov.
Monthly pickups by appointment take place during the last 2 weeks of each month. TEFAP customers, please call after the 20th of each month to request a pick up time. FDPIR participants will receive a monthly call to put their food list together.
TEFAP (Food Bank of Alaska) requires that all clients reapply every October. Certification is good for 1-year.
FDPIR benefits vary from 1 month to 1 year depending on eligibility. You will be made aware of your renewal date.
Distributions for both programs are once a month.
Freight delivery can effect distribution days. Calling ahead allows us to schedule a specific time for pickup. By staggering our pickups, we are able to better serve you.
You may assign a proxy on your application to act on your behalf for food pickup if you are unable to make it.
Distributions are based on household size. See application for household size guidelines.
We receive a variety of shelf-stable, frozen and fresh foods each month. Types of items vary month to month depending on what stock items TEFAP (Food Bank of Alaska) and FDPIR provide us. If you have any special requests, we are happy to pass that info along.
