The Ilanka Community Health Center, owned and operated by The Native Village of Eyak, is a primary health, behavioral health, integrated and ambulatory care outpatient clinic. We offer affordable quality health care for all, such as the Sliding Fee Discounts based on your family size and income and Purchased Referred Care for our tribal beneficiaries. We have staff to assist you in applying for financial assistance such as; Sliding Fee Discounts, VA, Medicare, Medicaid, Denali Kidcare, Affordable Care Act Insurance Plans, etc…

 

ICHC is a Federally Qualified Health Center that serves all of Cordova residents and visitors using our HRSA funded sliding fee scales and Indian Health Services.

At the Ilanka Community Health Center, we are committed to providing personalized quality health care to our Cordova community – including members of the Native Village of Eyak, non-tribal community members, seasonal workers and visitors . Benjamin Head, MD

Doctor

Dr. Head joined Ilanka Community Health Center in May, 2021. Dr. Head grew up in Nome. He attended medical school at the University of Washington through the Alaska WWAMI program and completed his residency training in rural family medicine at the Duluth Family Medicine Residency Program.  After graduation, he moved to Kemmerer, Wyoming, where he practiced full-spectrum family medicine, including OB, Inpatient Hospital Medicine, ER and endoscopy.  He provides healthcare to newborn, pediatric, adult and geriatric populations with a special interest in prenatal care, women's health and sports medicine.  He is married with three children and enjoys hunting, fishing, camping and all sports.  He is thrilled to be back home in Alaska.

Brian Iutzi, MD

Doctor

Dr. Iutzi joined Ilanka Community Health Center in August 2017 and is Board Certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Iutzi graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed his residency with the University of Wyoming. He first moved to Alaska in 2001 and feels a strong connection to the Alaskan people and the land. Dr. Iutzi volunteers as the Medical Director for Cordova’s Volunteer Emergency Response Team. He also provides care in Cordova Community Medical Center’s Emergency Department.

Laily Mahoozi, MD

Laily Mahoozy, MD

Doctor

Laily joined Ilanka Community Health Center in October of 2023. She attended medical school in England further obtaining specialties in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Neuroendocrinology in the United States. Dr Mahoozi worked as a consultant in New York and then Iran where she served the Middle East Region as the only pituitary specialist. Originally from the deserts of southern Iran, where essence is movement and legacy dance. Dr. Mahoozi's passion is the Art of Medicine; interweaving culture, beauty, and science to satisfy the many facets of health. Her next move is the exotic dance of Alaska!

Susie Powell

Susie Powell, LPC, CDCII, BHAIII

Behavioral Health Director

Susie joined Ilanka Community Health Center in December 2017. After growing up in Massachusetts, Susie moved to Alaska in 2007, where she volunteered with homeless youth in Anchorage. After working with nonprofits as well as schools, Susie decided to pursue a career in counseling to address the underlying trauma, mental health, and substance use challenges that interfered with many youth in attaining their goals. She received her master’s degree in Community Counseling from the University of Fairbanks and is now a Licensed Professional Counselor. Susie draws from mindfulness-based therapies, self-compassion, polyvagal theory, and EMDR among other treatment modalities to help clients of all ages achieve their desired wellness goals. She loves exploring Cordova’s beautiful outdoors with her husband and two boys.

Sun Young An, MS, CRC, BHAIII

Behavioral Health Clinician

Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Sun moved to New York City in 1997 where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Relocating to attend Boston University, Sun then earned her Masters’ degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, closely following that achievement with a year of volunteer work in India and Nepal. Afterwards, Sun returned to New York City to work at Mt. Sinai Beth Israel Hospital. After 8 years, Sun resigned her position as a Program Manager in the Psychiatric Department and resumed her world travels, experiencing the natural wonders of South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. These travels also brought her to Alaska for seasonal work, which included two summers in Cordova. Her love of hiking, camping, outdoor adventures, and subsistence activities has drawn her back to Cordova and to join Ilanka’s Behavioral Health team as of October 2021.

Curtis Bejes, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Bejes joined forces with Ilanka Community Health Center filling the role of Medical Director in July of 2023. Dr. Bejes has been providing care to Cordova intermittently since 2012, initially serving at CCMC’s ER Department and later as CCMC’s Medical Director. Dr. Bejes recently retired from his full-time practice in Indiana and is looking forward to spending more time with family and assisting with Cordova’s healthcare. His passion has always been to improve the health of people in rural communities through whatever means possible. This continues to be an exciting and challenging venture along with enjoying the great outdoors whenever possible.
